Frontline is a community that seeks to know God, His power, and His presence. Our source of authority is the Bible. The Bible tells us about God and how we can know Him in a personal, real way. Despite the images that the media, televangelists, and many churches portray, the Christian life is not a list of rules and regulations. It's not about brainless ritual. It is not based on our ability to be good or appear perfect. It's not even about religion.
In a world of various beliefs and faiths, Christianity has several distinct features. The most significant characteristic about it is how it is spelled. Religion is spelled, "d-o." Christianity is spelled, "d-o-n-e." Every other religion in the world is based on some system of works and actions. One must earn his or her entrance to heaven by good deeds, service, and by achieving certain prescribed standards of conduct. If he or she does enough, they will be blessed with a reward.
There are two problems with the "do" approach. First, it requires a tremendous effort on our part. It is often vague and difficult to measure whether we have "arrived" or not. The second problem is that we serve a perfect and holy God that can tolerate no amount of sin or imperfection. Even the slightest mistake on our part is enough to cause eternal separation from God. No works are good enough since all of us have sinned and fall far short of His perfection. Just like a small drop of poison can contaminate an entire glass of water, so our slightest sin is enough to separate us from God. Our good works are like futile attempts to jump across the Grand Canyon of our sin that distances us from God.
The good news, or Gospel, is what was "done." God came to earth in the form of a man, Jesus, and lived among us. He was fully God, yet fully man (a mystery for sure, but a tenant of Christianity nonetheless). He died to pay the penalty of our sins. He was perfect and it required a perfect sacrifice to cover our imperfections. He became the bridge that covers the canyon between us and God. All we must do is accept the gift that Jesus gave us on the cross upon which He died. That's it. It's a free gift that needs to be taken. It's a bridge that we need to simply walk across.
Jesus allows us to know God. He died so we could communicate with God, experience His presence and power, and ultimately live forever with Him in heaven. It doesn't make sense. We did nothing to deserve it. We deserve punishment, yet Jesus paid the price for our freedom.
At Frontline, we are daily growing in our understanding of and relationship with God. Together in community we are learning what it means to authentically follow Jesus and allow Him to change us. We don't have to change in order to know Jesus. He gives us the power and strength we need to change after He becomes a vital part of our life.
The power of God allows us to be more loving, caring, kind, and joyful. We are far from perfect, but we are growing together as a community in loving God and each other as well as those in our area. We welcome you to join us. We are here to serve you. If you have not entered into a personal relationship with Jesus, we love you and accept you as you are. We place no pressure on you to accept Christ, but we are a living testimony of what Jesus has done in our lives to make life far more meaningful and purposeful. We hope that you will see the difference Christ has made in us and investigate Him with us. If we can answer any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. |
